Housing Finance Reform

NAR supports reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into government-chartered market utilities, in a way that ensures the mission of the GSEs continues to meet the needs of consumers while protecting taxpayers. Such reforms must also encourage private capital's participation in the secondary mortgage market and ensure there is mortgage capital in all markets at all times and under all economic conditions, with the continued availability of the 30-year fixed rate mortgage.
