Baldwin County, Alabama is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. When it recently updated its zoning code for new subdivisions, the local REALTOR® association submitted the proposed draft for a Land Use Initiative review, resulting in legal analysis that helped the county achieve a fair, clear, and reasonable set of regulations to guide developers, builders, and homeowners.
In St. Charles County, Missouri, a proliferation of advertising signs brought on a restrictive reactionary ordinance by the Board of Aldermen, threatening to throw the baby out with the bath water. Using the Land Use Initiative program and a Call for Action, the local REALTORS® have been able to show the legislators how outlawing open house signs would disarm a healthy real estate market.
With support from a Consumer Advocacy Outreach Grant, the Northern Kentucky Association of REALTORS® clarified the connection between housing affordability and the lack of inventory, which polling had shown to be misunderstood among local residents. The Northern Kentucky “A Place for All” campaign spelled out the clear need for a variety of income-aligned affordable housing in the region.
