Delaware REALTORS® Lobby State to Spare Summer Rental Season from Extended Pandemic Shutdown

Facing an extension of restrictions on out-of-state visitors and short-term rentals as the all-important summer beach season approached, Delaware REALTORS® engaged their governor and other elected officials in problem-solving discussions. A five-part Call for Action through the Advocacy Everywhere program helped get the message through.

Rental Assistance Needed for Renters & Housing Providers Alike

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared a “temporary halt to residential evictions to prevent the further spread of COVID-19,” which applies to all residential housing. This may be helpful to renters in the short-term. But property owners will struggle to meet their financial obligations, and when the moratorium expires, renters will struggle to make up back rent. This has the potential to turn this pandemic into a significant housing crisis come 2021.

Additionally, 37% of rental units are categorized as LLC/LP/LLP, many of which are operated by individuals who will also be negatively impacted.
