The Government Affairs Directors’ Institute (GAD Institute) is an annual professional development conference for state and local association professionals who work in the areas of government affairs, political affairs, legislative or regulatory affairs, lobbying, advocacy, RPAC fundraising, campaigns, community outreach, and/or REALTOR® Party initiatives. Add Consumer Voices to Your Advocacy Efforts
Are you working on a tax or housing affordability policy issue? Want to target homeowners in your community? Your association can apply for a Consumer Advocacy Outreach grant up to $25,000 to engage consumers and advocate for policy issues that impact homeownership and property rights. Grants are reviewed by the Consumer Advocacy Outreach Advisory Board on the first Tuesday of each month. The requesting association is required to present for five minutes. Contact Erin Murphy | 202-383-1079 to chat about what you’re working on or fill out the application.

Invoices Due: FPC Stipends for REALTORS® Legislative Meetings
To ensure your FPCs receive their trip stipends for the REALTORS® Legislative Meetings, please submit your invoices to NAR by July 1, 2022. The reimbursement process will be the same as in previous years: FPCs, following state reimbursement rules, should file their expense reports with their state association. States then submit one invoice to NAR for the entire state FPC delegation that attended the meetings and are requesting the stipend. The invoice should list the name of each FPC requesting assistance, and the amount being requested for each FPC (up to $1,000 per FPC). Please email your invoice to govcpapay@realtors.org. Questions should be directed to Victoria Givens.

On Common Ground: Sustainability and Climate Risk
The latest issue of On Common Ground details how towns have recovered from extreme weather, implementing state-of-the-art building techniques and preventative measures to protect communities and property investment. It includes REALTOR® partnership success stories, sustainable and equitable development solutions, and options for paying the costs associated with creating protection. Read the latest issue on our website or the OCG APP (Apple) (Google Play). Over 35,000 copies will also be distributed to state and local associations and elected officials.  Are you on the list? If not, contact Catherine Mesick. Questions? Contact Hugh Morris | 202-383-1278

Take Action with a Community Outreach Grant
You’re an advocate for change, and NAR’s Community Outreach Grants provide the resources to move your association’s agenda forward. Five grants with various levels of funding help associations take action on issues that matter most. Watch the Community Outreach video to learn how grants and resources help associations build stronger communities. Questions? Contact Christine Windle | 202-383-1135

Add Community Outreach to Your Association’s Government Affairs Committee Agenda
Would you like the Community Outreach team to present virtually at one of your upcoming association meetings? Leadership and staff can learn how to address affordable housing challenges, community planning and development issues, revitalization opportunities, and fair housing initiatives using a Housing Opportunity, Smart Growth, Placemaking, Rural Outreach and/or Fair Housing grant. For more information and to schedule, contact Christine Windle | 202-383-1135.

Brad Ward
GAD Chair
Michigan REALTORS®

A person smiling for the camera Description automatically generated with low confidence It was so good seeing all of you in National Harbor. We had a great turnout for all our GAD sessions.

I would like to put a plug in for John Winston and Zach Rubin-McCarry’s Choosing REALTOR® Champions course. It is an extraordinarily helpful program for GADs setting up candidate interviews. It is also a great course for you to deliver to members who are serving on an interview committee or panel. Never underestimate the ability of a candidate interview to go awry.

Speaking of candidate interviews, there is a lot of traffic on the GAD Facebook page from GADs looking for candidate questionnaire samples. Earlier this year, we collected samples from state and local associations and compiled them into one neat PDF for your reference. In case you missed it, here is a link to a printable PDF.

Increasingly, the GAD Advisory Group is focusing on bringing you relevant content throughout the year, not just at the institute. If you have suggestions for topics for our quarterly All GAD Calls or ideas for new GAD Resources or tools, we want to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Vice Chair Josh Dix, members of the AG, or myself with your ideas and suggestions on how to build a stronger GAD Nation.

On that note, I would like to make one last request for your feedback on the Federal Political Coordinator (FPC) program. I am working with a group of NAR members and staff on ideas to improve the current FPC program. Our next meeting is June 3rd so please feel free to share your input with me at bward@mirealtors.com before then.
