When the initially reluctant City Council of Bend, Oregon finally agreed to set the ball rolling to increase its Urban Growth Boundary, the local REALTOR® association provided positive reinforcement with a supportive Call For Action. Building rapport and relationships, says the Government Affairs Director, is always a good strategy – that extends to leadership within a regional housing coalition that is raising public awareness of a growing housing crisis.

Long Island Board of REALTORS® Fair Housing Campaign Focuses on Access for People with Disabilities
With its Home for All of Us initiative that began in 2022, the Long Island Board of REALTORS® is promoting awareness of protected classes, one-by-one. Last year it launched the campaign’s second phase, with a focus on issues pertaining to people with disabilities – from service animals to accessible websites.
Alabama REALTORS® Champion First-Time Homebuyer Savings Accounts — Again
Having spearheaded the effort to create a First-Time Homebuyer Savings Account program in Alabama back in 2018, Alabama REALTORS® revisited the legislation as the end of a five-year sunset clause approached. A Call for Action reminded lawmakers how important the tax-free savings accounts are for aspiring homebuyers, and the law was not only renewed, but extended and strengthened with fraud protections and transparency measures.
North Platte Valley Association of REALTORS® Leverages Housing Opportunity Grant to Promote Financial Literacy Among Local 8th Graders
In partnership with like-minded organizations in rural eastern Wyoming, the North Platte Valley Board of REALTORS® conducted a "Reality Town" program to introduce important concepts of financial literacy to area 8th grade youth. Students from three schools in the region learned about the correlation between grades and earning potential, and real-world living expenses, from participating grown-ups in their community – including REALTORS®.
Contra Costa Association of REALTORS® Uses Advocacy Everywhere to Dissuade City Council from Imposing Real Estate Transfer Tax
When the City of Hercules, CA threatened to establish a Real Estate Transfer Tax to help pay for services and maintenance, members of the Contra Costa Association of REALTORS® raised their voices in opposition. The REALTOR® Party’s Advocacy Everywhere program helped to get the message across.
