Election Week, Live from Orlando!

Election Week, Live from Orlando!

November 2022

It’s a big week for the REALTOR® Party, and we’re breaking it all down for you live from Orlando as thousands gather for NAR NXT, The REALTOR® Experience.

The results of Tuesday’s midterm elections are still coming in, and next month we’ll have a detailed report on our REALTOR® wins. But today we’re focused on how REALTOR® Party programs helped associations make a difference in races across the country for both issues and candidates this year.

Issues mobilization grants provide financial assistance to state and local associations to organize and manage state and local issue advocacy campaigns and promote positions on policies that affect REALTORS®.

To date in 2022, the REALTOR® Party has awarded 59 issues mobilization grants to 47 associations – 15 state and 32 local – totaling more than $7 million. Sixteen of these associations had never received an issues mobilization grant before this year. In all, grants were distributed in 26 states and one territory.

Of the 59 grants awarded, 27 were used for ballot initiatives while 32 went toward legislative advocacy. Campaigns supported by these grants have focused on issues ranging from property taxes to rent control to infrastructure.

Eighteen of the 27 ballot initiatives received a vote this week. Of the nine that were decided before Election Day, the REALTOR® position prevailed in seven.

Another important REALTOR® Party program, the state and local independent expenditures (IE) program, provides each state with funds they can use to support candidates who support REALTORS® and the real estate industry. Throughout the program’s history, funding has supported races as small as a rural city council race all the way up to governor.

In 2022, so far, the state and local IE program has supported 494 campaigns totaling more than $17 million. We know that helping elect REALTOR® champions at all levels of government is crucial to our ability to do business every day.

If this Election Week weren’t exciting enough, thousands of REALTORS® are currently participating in NAR NXT, The REALTOR® Experience. The REALTOR® Party is front and center in Orlando right now with the Advocacy Scoop and other conference sessions on housing supply, fair housing, planning and zoning, and more – all through the lens of how the midterm election results will shape next year’s advocacy efforts.
