State and local REALTOR® Associations around the country are taking advantage of REALTOR® Party tools and resources to step up their community outreach and advocacy efforts. Their success stories expand beyond their states and cities because they inspire and set precedents. Take a look at the examples here for around the country.
In Washington state, funding for fire safety is an unquestioned necessity. At the same time, there’s a statewide housing affordability crisis. Priorities collided when the City Council of Moses Creek proposed Fire Impact fees for all new development projects, adding a significant cost burden to much-needed new housing. With help from the REALTOR® Party, a Call for Action helped voice local opposition.
Barrington, R.I, a lovely coastal suburb of the state capital, full of higher-end homes and strong public schools, seems to have everything going for it. However, when property tax reassessments based on sale price suddenly superseded the customary three-year assessment schedule, the local REALTORS® voiced strong opposition.
The Central Oregon Association of REALTORS® supports of the city of Bend’s Community Climate Action Plan, but it had to draw the line at a mandatory measure that was certain to increase rising home costs even more. A robust response to a timely Call for Action helped convince the City Council to remove the word ‘required’ from the plan.
