Creating Home, Mending Communities

Creating Home, Mending Communities

June 2020

These last few months have redefined the terms home and community. Our homes aren’t just homes — they are offices, gyms, and so much more, and our communities have been our life line during these challenging times. Many of our communities have been damaged by looters during protests in response to the senseless death of George Floyd. Rest assured that NAR is committed to leading the way on policies that address racial injustice and that build safe and inclusive communities where people of every color feel safe to pursue the American Dream. Last week, we released a new implicit bias training curriculum as a small part of an ongoing education campaign that will position Realtors® to lead in the fight against racial discrimination. We also created a new Community Rebuilding Grant to provide special funding for state and local REALTOR® Associations to led efforts to rebuild and restore public community places impacted by the racial injustice demonstrations. While this grants is only available to REALTOR® Associations, we encourage REALTORS® to spread the word and take part in the rebuilding. This is a small part of building a future that begins with equal access to housing and opportunity for all.

Throughout the month of June, we invite all REALTORS® to join the celebration of Homeownership Month! NAR is celebrating the versatility of every homeowner’s space and a new era of homeownership. Homeownership Matters will recognize the time that homeowners invest in making the space they live in feel like home and the importance of #CreatingHome. The goal is to not only celebrate homeownership today, but to inspire the next generation of homeowners.

Now more than ever, communities are coming together and homeowners are transforming their homes to suit their lifestyle. We’re celebrating homeowners who are living out their American dream by #CreatingHome to fit their needs. We invite you and your clients to share a few words about what inspired you to purchase a home and what you love about being a homeowner. We also welcome you to share a photo how you’ve transformed your space to fit your lifestyle during these unprecedented times!

In addition to sharing your #CreatingHome stories, you’ll also find localized content to share with your members and your clients on the HomeOwnershipMatters.realtor website. This is an excellent resource that can help establish REALTORS® as experts before, during and after the homebuying experience.
