NAR Visits White House to Discuss Solutions to Unlock Inventory

Last month, NAR’s Chief Advocacy Officer Shannon McGahn and Vice President of Government Advocacy Joe Harris joined Senior Advisor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs Tom Perez in the West Wing to discuss solutions to unlock housing inventory.

Shannon and Joe highlighted NAR’s collaboration with the National League of Cities, the American Planning Association, and other housing stakeholders to produce the Housing Supply Accelerator Playbook, which incorporates REALTOR® associations’ work to expand housing supply as part of a roadmap to inspire and incentivize local housing efforts.

The same week, the Treasury Department and other federal agencies introduced new affordable housing initiatives mirroring many of NAR’s top priorities. The administration and the Department of Housing and Urban Development also announced $85 million in grant funding for the Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO) program.

NEW: NAR Advocacy Mission Landing Page

A recent national survey by the University of Michigan and the Financial Times found that Americans’ ability to afford a home was ranked as a top concern by an almost equal 70% share of Democrats, Republicans, and independent voters alike.

Housing affordability is a cause every elected official can rally around at the local, state, and federal levels. It will take a comprehensive, all-of-government approach to win this fight. Read more at our new landing page about NAR’s advocacy mission to make housing more affordable, available, and accessible.
