The amount of rental assistance funding included in COVID-19 relief legislation approved by Congress in December. As many renters across the nation continue to struggle to make rent payments, many housing providers have fought to meet their own financial obligations. NAR’s relentless efforts helped secure rental assistance in the latest federal relief bill, protecting renters, housing providers, and America’s economic stability.

The projected increase in the number of American households between 2018 and 2028, driven by millennials and members of Generation X. The largest cohort of millennial buyers have yet to surface on the market, researchers note, but CoreLogic reports nearly 15 million Americans are rapidly approaching the average age of the first-time home buyer: 33.

The Pending Home Sales Index measured in NAR’s most recent PHS report, the highest November figure ever recorded. The index is a forward-looking indicator of home sales based on recent contract signings. In the same report, NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun predicted that existing and new home sales would increase roughly 10% and 20%, respectively, in 2021.

The number of new jobs Yun expects could be added in America this year, representing a gradual rebound from the net loss of roughly 7 million in 2020, and dropping unemployment to around 5.5%. Although consensus among economists is that home prices will continue to climb in 2021, Yun expects first-time home buyers could get a slight reprieve as growth begins to moderate over the coming months.

Nearly Nine Million Americans Have Moved Since the Pandemic Began.
NAR’s research team recently published new findings about the migratory trends of Americans in 2020, with data on incoming and outgoing residents broken down by state. NAR tracked change-of-address data from the U.S. Postal Service from March to October to determine mobility changes since the pandemic began, showing a total of 8.93 million people who have relocated over that time.
