Advocacy Resources

Issues Mobilization Assistance in 2020
The Issues Mobilization Program provides financial and technical support to state and local REALTOR® associations to assist you in addressing public policy issues that impact REALTORS® and the real estate industry. As we near the end of 2019, we’re shifting our focus to 2020 and any assistance on issue advocacy efforts that associations might need in the coming year. The first Issues Mobilization Committee meeting at which associations can request funding for 2020 issue campaigns is December 4, 2019 meeting in Austin, Texas during the REALTOR® Party Training Conference. The earlier you connect with us, the better able we are to assist you. And we’re not forgetting about 2019. Funding remains available to assist issue campaigns in the remainder of this year. For more information, contact Joe Maheady at 202-383-1006 or John Winston at 202-383-1235.

Oct. 15: Community Outreach Grants Extended Deadline
We have extended the final deadline to apply for a Community Outreach Grant – Placemaking, Smart Growth, Housing Opportunity, and Diversity – in 2019 from September 15 to October 15. After the October 15 deadline, applications will not be accepted until January 2020. For more information, contact Holly Moskerintz

Short-term Rentals Survey
With the recent uptick in state and local legislative activity on short-term rentals, we thought it would be a good time to take the pulse on how much activity there is at the state and local level. Please take a minute to take this short survey by Oct 1. For more information, contact Hugh Morris

Engage Consumers in Your Community
The Consumer Advocacy Outreach grant offers up to $35,000 to help your association grow a powerful collective of consumers advocating for public policy issues that impact homeownership.

Securing a grant for your association is easy:

  • Submit one grant application
  • Request a grant amount up to $35,000
  • Contribute 10% of the grant amount requested

By applying for the Consumer Advocacy Outreach grant, your association will be given resources to lead a consumer advocacy campaign and advance policies that improve the real estate market, increase consumer desire for homeownership, and strengthen the communities you serve.  If your association is ready to expand protecting and promoting homeownership, apply for the Consumer Advocacy Outreach grant today. For more information, contact Erin Murphy at 202-383-1079.

Message from the GAD Chair
Julia Parenteau
GAD Chair
Texas REALTORS®

cadyThomas2.jpgSeptember: Kids are back to school, commuter traffic has gone from bad to worse, Halloween candy is in stores, and Election Day is just 40 days away. It’s truly the best time of year!

One of my top priorities as your Chair is to facilitate more opportunities for GADs to share their knowledge and experience to better serve the REALTOR® Party, and I’m excited that we’ll soon see NAR’s 2020 Committee appointments rolling into your inboxes. We’ll also be seeking other, less formal ways for GADs to contribute to the conversation at the local, state, and national levels. There are so many ways you can have an impact.

Speaking of service, I’d like to one again thank everyone who applied to serve on the GAD Advisory Group. This appointment process is one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done, given the significant talent you all bring to the table.

With that, I’m delighted to introduce the members of the 2019-2020 GAD Advisory Group:

Kelli Walker, Vice Chair (L) – New Orleans, LA
Matthew Leger, Immediate Past Chair (L) – Palm Beaches, FL
Samar Jha, 2020 Local Host – Philadelphia, PA
Sherri Martin, 2020 State Host – Pennsylvania
Liz Peetz, 2021 Host – Colorado
Andrew Blackburn (L) – Raleigh, NC
Josh Dix (L) – Charleston, SC
Lacey Everett (L) – Indianapolis, IN
Jamie Horbach (S) – Iowa
Mike Kelly (S) – New York
Theresa Kuhns (L) – Hughesville, MD
Nicole LaSlavic (S) – Arizona
James Litz (L) – Beverly Hills, CA
Brad Mock (S) – Georgia
Seth Palmer (S) – North Carolina
Bo Patten (L) – Long Island, NY
Taylor Shanaman (L) – Tacoma, WA
Danielle Cone Scoggins (S) – Florida
Clarke Wise (S) – Mississippi

The Advisory Group is already meeting via conference call, working on preliminary plans for the 2020 GAD Institute and several professional development opportunities that will take place between now and then.

Continuing the great work of Chairman Leger and his team, the Advisory Group will be exploring potential study groups that would research hot topics and present possible solutions at the 2020 Institute. But before that work can occur, we need to know what the hot topics are! What do you see as the next up-and-coming issue in your state or community that could benefit from in-depth analysis?

And before everyone shouts “short-term rentals!” all at once, don’t forget that this year’s presentations included short-term rentals and housing affordability. Please send your ideas to Kyle Lambert London, or to me at julia@texasrealtors.com.

If Election Day is 40 days away, that means we’ll be headed to the REALTORS® Conference & Expo in 41 days – I look forward to seeing many of you there!
