What You Need to Know
NAR CEO Bob Goldberg joined White House officials and industry representatives on November 16 to discuss the Biden administration’s response to housing supply and affordability constraints. NAR President Kenny Parcell followed up with a letter to White House officials outlining numerous priorities to help address these ongoing challenges. This marks the second White House meeting NAR has participated in this fall to push for solutions to supply and affordability issues.

The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) released its 2022 annual report to Congress in mid-November. NAR applauded FHA for its impressive financial performance, with substantial capital reserves that are 9.2% above what is required by Congress and 3% higher than their previous year’s reporting. Given FHA’s strong financial footing, NAR continues to advocate for a reduction in the Mortgage Insurance Premium to help buyers facing high interest rates.

Pending home sales slid for the fifth consecutive month in October, down 4.6% from September. All four regions recorded year-over-year declines in transactions. Meanwhile, existing-home sales faded for the ninth month in a row to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.43 million. Sales fell 5.9% from September and 28.4% from one year ago.

Knoxville Area Association of REALTORS® Defeats Detrimental Zoning Proposals
When severe zoning restrictions on housing development were on the table in Blount County, Tenn., the Knoxville Area Association of REALTORS® used multiple REALTOR® Party resources – Issues Mobilization, Advocacy Everywhere, and the Land Use Initiative – to stave off the threat in a major victory for the real estate industry, property owners, and aspiring homebuyers.

Mid Carolina Regional Association of REALTORS® Defeats Short-Term Rental Ordinance
Launching a Call For Action through the REALTOR® Party’s Advocacy Everywhere program, the Mid Carolina Regional Association of REALTORS® encouraged its members and residents of Pinehurst, N.C., to oppose proposed short-term rental regulations that would have impaired the popular destination’s thriving tourist industry and weakened private property rights.

Longleaf Pine REALTORS® Help Defeat Zero Lot Line Moratorium
When the administrators of Cumberland County, N.C., proposed an ordinance placing a moratorium on construction of zero lot line developments, the Longleaf Pine REALTORS® used the REALTOR® Party’s Advocacy Everywhere program to launch an emergency Call For Action. The robust response from REALTOR® members sent a clear message to elected officials about the damage that such a ban would do to the already dwindling dream of homeownership in the region.

State and Local REALTOR® associations can apply for a grant to host their own REALTOR® Party Conference to educate members and further the mission of the REALTOR® Party. Associations may qualify to receive funding to aid in hosting an educational or fundraising conference.
