Texas REALTORSĀ® Helps Defeat HOA Section 8 Ban
Texas REALTORSĀ® led the way in convincing the state legislature to prohibit Home Owners Associations from barring rentals to Section 8 tenants. The new law is an assertion of the rights of owners to rent to voucher recipients ā and anyone else they choose to. It also highlights the importance of the voucher program in providing decent, safe, affordable housing to the stateās most vulnerable households.

In 2022, census data showed that housing inventory in Washington state was the lowest in the country, and the city of Spokane, population 229,000, had only a two- to three-week supply of homes. To help address the crisis, Spokane REALTORSĀ® implemented a National Association of REALTORSĀ® grant to support an objective assessment of market conditions and roadblocks, plus a practical plan for moving forward.

Hampton Roads (VA) REALTORSĀ® Co-Host āBetter Blockā Effort With Smart Growth Grant
One weekend in early November 2013, the 3,000-member Hampton Roads REALTORSĀ® Association [HRRA] co-hosted a block party launching a plan to turn a tired commercial/ residential area into a vibrant arts district. Using a $15,000 Smart Growth Grant, HRRA helped to pay for the āBetter Block Weekendā including arranging for six vacant houses within a five-block radius to have open houses and creating a pop-up REALTORĀ® office in an empty storefront. The support and involvement of REALTORS there helped to create the exciting vision. Over time, with continued effort, that vision will become a reality.
