The Vermont Association of REALTORS® knows that increasing rent control regulations in Burlington will infringe on private property rights – and won’t fix the housing challenges. Through an Issues Mobilization campaign supported by the REALTOR® Party, they presented the message that ultimately resonated with the governor, who vetoed a threatened rent-control ordinance.
Arizona REALTORS® Rally to Repeal Regressive Rental Tax
Arizona rental households had been paying an average of $51/month in transaction privilege taxes, a burden that negatively affected the state’s property managers, as well as its renters. With housing affordability an increasing concern, Arizona REALTORS® redoubled their efforts to repeal the tax, and with support from an Issues Mobilization Grant, they did.
District of Columbia Association of REALTORS® Hosts Workshop on Accessory Dwelling Units
Using a Smart Growth Grant from the REALTOR® Party, the District of Columbia Association of REALTORS® convened a panel of experts to present facts, figures, examples, and answers regarding the process of developing accessory dwelling units, now permitted in much of the nation’s capital.

NAR Thanks President Biden for Addressing Housing Supply in State of the Union
On Thursday night, President Joe Biden announced a number of housing initiatives in the State of the Union address (SOTU), calling for a $10,000 tax credit for both first-time homebuyers and people who sell their starter homes; the construction and renovation of more than 2 million additional homes, lower closing costs and cost reductions for renters.
Illinois REALTORS® and the Chicago Association of REALTORS® Conduct Campaign to Defeat Transfer Tax Referendum
With help from an Issues Mobilization Grant from the REALTOR® Party, Illinois REALTORS® and the Chicago Association of REALTORS® fought a misguided referendum seeking to use an increase in real estate transfer taxes to fight homelessness. Understanding that the proposal would be detrimental to the local economy, the REALTORS® launched an energetic effort to persuade voters to oppose it at the ballot box.
Maryland REALTORS® Successfully Oppose Sales Tax on Services
Faced with a legislative proposal that would have instituted a sales tax on services, Maryland REALTORS® launched a strong opposition focused on how the measure would increase the cost of housing at each step of development, construction, and sales. In consultation with REALTOR® Party staff, they created a Call For Action campaign that helped to kill the bill in committee.
